Skilled Independent Visa Australia

The Australian General Skilled Migration program is targeted at individuals who possess the qualifications and skills for the growth of Australia’s economy. This visa will enable you to gain permanent residency status in Australia along with lots of benefits for you and your family. Applicants are required to apply via SkillSelect.

SkillSelect is an online portal that allows skilled workers who have an interest in migrating to Australia to submit their resume and particulars through an Expression of Interest (EOI). Australian employers or state and territory governments will then search SkillSelect for suitable candidates to be selected for skilled visas.

Australian Skilled Independent Visa Basic Requirements

- Age

You must be over 18 and under 50 years of age when you apply

- English language

Minimum IELTS 6.0

- Qualifications

Post-Secondary (Universities or Trades) Qualification

- Points Test

Attain at least 60 points on the Points Test

* No work experience required for the past 2 years / 24 months

Types of Skilled Visas

1. Skilled - Independent (Migrant) visa Subclass 189

A type of permanent visa for people who are with skills in demand, not sponsored by relatives or states and must pass the points test.

2. Skilled - Sponsored (Migrant) visa Subclass 190

This type of permanent visa is for people who are unable to meet the Skilled-Independent pass mark. They must be either sponsored by an eligible relative living in Australia or nominated by a participating State or Territory government and must pass the pass mark which is lower than the Skilled-Independent visa.

3. Skilled - Regional Sponsored (Provisional) visa Subclass 489

A three (3) year provisional visa for people who can meet the lower pass mark who is being sponsored by an eligible relative living in a designated area of Australia or nominated by a participating State or Territory government.

4. Skilled - Recognised Graduate (Temporary) visa Subclass 476

This is an eighteen (18) month temporary visa for graduates from recognized overseas educational institutions who have skills in demand in Australia. There is no points test for this type of visa.

5. Skilled - Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme Subclass 187

The RSMS allows Australian employers in regional and low population growth areas of Australia to sponsor workers for permanent residence in order to fill skilled vacancies in their businesses. The employer's business, as well as the nominated position, must be located in regionla or low population growth areas, which include all of Australia except for Brisbane, The Gold Coast, Sydney, Newcastle, Wollongong and Melbourne. There is no points test for this type of visa.

6. Skilled - Employer Sponsored Worker visa Subclass 457

This visa allows a business to employ someone from outside Australia for a skilled job in Australia. The subclass 457 enables skilled workers from outside Australia who have been sponsored and nominated by a business to work in Australia on a temporary basis. There is no points test for this type of visa.
